My trip to Costa Rica was my first trip out of the country. Sure, with a mother who loves to travel, i’ve been to many of our 50 states but to leave the country was a whole new experience. The Flight to the airport in San Jose was about 6 hours total and when we got to the airport there wasn’t a space for our plane. We had to go down the steps on the runway and were bused to an open air terminal. I definitely recommend hiring someone to meet you at the airport and lead you through security because if we hadn’t, we would have been there for hours.
The First thing I noticed about Costa rica: It’s so hot. We went over spring break which is in March and it was about one-hundred degrees everyday. The second thing I noticed is that everyone there is a crazy driver. I am so glad that we hired a guy to drive us the one hour and thirty minutes to the resort or I think we would have gotten in a serious accident. Now, enough about that. I was blessed to have been able to go on this trip so during my trip to Costa Rica I did three things while I was there that I think everyone who goes there should experience.
The first thing I thing everyone should do, if they just arrived in Costa Rica, is hire a driver and just drive around. Your driver will probably know all the best places to see on your way to wherever you are staying. My driver took my family and I to this bridge surrounded by shops. One of the shops made coconut milk drinks right in front of you and you drank straight out of the coconut. After visiting the shops, we walked over to the bridge to see why there were so many people lining the sides and when I looked down I understood why. The river below was full of crocodiles! There were so many that they we laying on top of one another, it was truly an amazing experience.
The second thing we did was go four-wheeling in the mountains. This had to be my favorite thing that we did on this trip because of how beautiful Costa Rica is. On our ride up, our guide had us stop and walk to a hidden waterfall in the jungle. It was absolutely amazing. After swimming for a while, we returned to our four-wheelers and continued up. I would definitely suggest wearing long sleeves because, even though it was hot, the sun is so strong that I got sun poisoning on both my wrists that were exposed. When we made it to the top, there was a small shack that sold the best fresh smoothies I had ever had. We stayed there for a while just enjoying the view from the top looking over the rest of the rolling mountains and black sand beaches. If I had the opportunity to do this trip again, I would do it in a heartbeat.

The last thing I inspire you to do when you go there is just enjoy yourself. Feel blessed in your opportunity to go to this beautiful place and experience what you get to experience. Value the culture you are encountering and just immerse yourself in it. That’s what traveling is all about isn’t it? Value everything you experience traveling anywhere because life is too short not to.
